marco-photography

This past week at UW Photography club the theme was macro. I love macro-photography. Finding details in extremely small object/scenes is kind of fun. It's only when you take to the time to look at something closer you realize how much is really going on.

Here is the poem “In Flanders Fields” on the Canadian 10 dollar bill.

The next two shots are of some sea-shells with necklace holding some rings. Pretty elaborate eh?

Money seems like a common object to photograph for macro-photography. This a Taiwanese coin. I had no idea it was from Taiwan but I showed it around at the photo club and somebody there was from Taiwan and recognized it.

The other side of the Taiwanese coin.

Here is the Canadian penny. I find these everywhere on the ground.

So these last two are not marco at all but I took these on my walk home from photography club. This is in a church parking lot nearby my house. I like the lighting in the 1st and the feeling the photo gives off in the 2nd one.

I shall leave you with the 'Quote of this blog'. Taken from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Pretty much one of the best show ever. :) Here is is:

“You can handle defeat in two ways. You can lose confidence or you can learn from your mistakes.”

assorted goods

Hey everybody!  I'm back...

As mentioned in an earlier blog every week I am trying to take a picture to fit a given theme.  The link is here if your curious and want to know more:
http://www.digital-photography-school.com/53-weekly-themes-for-your-2011-project-365

So this past weeks theme was body parts.  I decided that I wanted to photograph some toes.  Hopefully this doesn't gross you out...

Here are my big toes. :)

The toes of some anonymous person.  Don't worry... I had permission from the individual.

The following pictures are of just random household objects.  I was a bit bored Saturday afternoon and started exploring.  I like the lighting in these pictures.

time is a limited resource.  There never seems to be enough of it in one day...

Candles on a shelf in the kitchen.  Sorry my lack of a creative descriptions...

Cupboard door left open.  Do you see the name inside?

Driving through Grand Valley, ON one morning.  We didn't stop but I was able to take this picture of the windmills and the rising sun through the window.

Almost every day while I walk to work there sits a flock of pigeons on the power lines.  Makes me think of the song from Marry Poppins... "feed the birds"

During photography club last week we split up into smaller groups to photograph hallways, tunnels, and pathways.  I got a bit side tracked from the group and found this cool room.  It felt like I shouldn't have been in there so I quickly took a bunch of picture and left. :)

Also during photography club, while traveling from building to building, I would get distracted by whatever caught my eye.  The lamp post with the vine-covered wall was awesome.  It was so incredibly cold however so we quickly rushed back indoors.

Another cool picture of the same lamp post.  The bikes appear to have been deserted and lost in the snow.

So there was a bit of everything in the post.  Some lovely toes, random household objects, and some sweet outdoor pictures.

High Speed Photography

Hey everybody.  These have to be the most amazing pictures I've ever taken to date!  Thanks a ton to the University of Waterloo Photography Club for the setup and making these photos possible.

The 1st two in the series are wet balloons being popped.  How awesome is that, eh?

This next one is a water-balloon the moment after the pop.  Seeing the water frozen like this is amazing.

After playing around with the balloons we moved on to bouncing a viscous fluid on a speaker by varying the frequency.  It was spectacular.  Seriously...

If you look carefully you can see another camera in the background of the picture.  The speaker was surrounded by around 15 photographers cramming in to get a good shot.

This one is my favourite.  I like the angle of the shot.  The crispness.  The almost perfect spherical blobs.  Just a lot of cool things happening at once.

So those were some of the better shots from the UW Photography Club  - High Speed Meeting.  I hope you will all enjoy looking at them.  It was lots of fun taking them.

I don't think I'll be able to top this post for some time.
